Standing at your desk is better than sitting all day — but stand on a hard floor for more than an hour and your feet, knees, and lower back will let you know about it. An anti-fatigue mat makes standing sustainable.
The difference between a good mat and a bad one is significant. A cheap kitchen mat might feel okay for 20 minutes. A properly designed standing desk mat keeps you comfortable for 2–3 hours at a stretch.

Sitting all day is terrible for your body. Standing all day isn’t much better. Walking while working? That’s the sweet spot — and under-desk treadmills (also called walking pads) make it surprisingly easy.
As an optometrist, I see the downstream effects of sedentary desk work daily. Patients who sit 8+ hours tend to have worse circulation, more neck tension (which contributes to headaches and eye strain), and report lower energy levels. Adding even 30 minutes of walking to your workday can meaningfully improve how you feel by 5 PM.

A wrist rest won’t cure carpal tunnel syndrome. But the right one can reduce pressure on your wrists during long work sessions and encourage a more neutral hand position — which is exactly what you need to prevent problems from developing in the first place.
As a healthcare professional who spends significant time at a desk, I’ve tried more wrist rests than I’d care to admit. Here’s what’s actually worth buying in 2026.
